I had the wonderful opportunity to completely restore the Tower Clock in Cliffside in 1992-93.
I had recently finished restoring a similar Tower Clock at the Stable House Courtyard in Biltmore Estate.
Now I have been informed that this Artifact of Great Historical Significance is no longer functioning. It saddens me to think that this priceless treasure is not chiming and striking it's Huge Bronze Bells by the 40 pound hammers, and the clock is telling the correct time only twice a day?
I am sure that many fond memories and historic moments have been documented by that clock, and hopefully I may return to Cliffside soon, examine the clock, and bring the clock back to working order, for it is only Fitting and Proper that the Haynes Memorial Tower Clock functions as it was designed to.

I am trying to find any information about my great grandfather, William Humphries. He was married to Nannie Henderson Humphries. My mother was adopted. Her biological parents were Raymond and Cuba Humphries. If anyone knows any information about them I would appreciate you contacting me. I am trying to find out my roots. It is so important to me. Gratefully, Debbie Harron

What a wonderful find!! I am the oldest son of Dr.J.FRANK Hawkins-DDS,the youngest son of Plato C. Hawkins, superintendent of the Mill in Cliffside."Turn My Face Toward Cliffside" was written by my Aunt Jennie. My grandfather died when my father was 17, so I never got to meet him. However,my father was just like his Dad. Although my father & I never were close until after I came home from Vietnam in 1968. My dad was so glad (& proud )to see me he introduced me to a dentist friend of his as his son "just home from Korea!" I had to laugh and tell him "wrong war Dad. He was one of the greatest human being I ever knew.I am proud to say I am his son and I loved him very much although I seldom told him so.

WOW! This was my first visit to Remember Cliffside and what a treat it was. I was born on the mill hill in 1961. My mother was Sara Lou Humphries Wright and my dad is James Gerald Wright. Thanks to everyone who works so hard to bring old memories of Cliffside back.
And the Cliffside weather webcam is cool also.
Thanks,
Jud Wright
