The Chase High School class of 1962 will have its 50 year reunion in the summer of next year(2012). I am on the committee to get it organized. We need to start planning. I just completed reading the soft back version of of the history, life and achievements of Raleigh Rutherford Haynes by Ina Fortune Haynes. I had read a hard back version several years ago but forgotten many of the important parts. This book describes the big picture of this gentleman's total accomplishments to the textile industry and the citizens in the county as well as Cliffside.
Many others in later years received far greater recognition, because of the availability of the press, with far less accomplishments. I can remember my father and grand parents having nothing but wonderful words for the Haynes family as they lived close by on The Hazel Hurst Farm in the Ferry Community.
It is almost beyond reality that his gentleman had the vision, dedication and organizational skills, at this point in history, to accomplish what he did in the time frame he did. In today's terminology he was most definitely an entrepreneur of his time that made life better for many citizens and employees.

I grew up in Cliffside, but my Mother and Father are both deceased. My father was Jim Scruggs {J.R.] and mother was Ollie Scruggs. My father died when I was a child and can't remember a lot about him. My Mother died in 2003. I was the last of 8 children. Would really like pld pictures or any information on them. My Dad is the one I have the fewest memories. He worked for Cone Mills in Cliffside for 50 years. He was born in 1902. My brothers and sisters are Harry Scruggs{deceased},Ed Scruggs,Nellie Jo Scruggs Hamrick,Sara Lee Scruggs Epperson,Ruby Scruggs Robinson Dedmond,Elizabeth{Lib}Scruggs Grayson and Nancy Scruggs Swafford. Would love information.
